Minimum requirements
- Legal work authorization in the U.S.
- At least 2 years of relevant professional experience (3+ for nannies)
- Three verifiable prior-employer references
- Willing to clear a national background check and driving record check
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
- Current CPR and first-aid certification (for all childcare roles)
- Live within a reasonable commute of Magnolia, The Woodlands, Tomball, or Spring

Application review
We personally review every application. If your background is a fit, you'll hear from us within one week. If it's not the right time, we'll tell you that too — with honesty.

Phone or video interview
A 30-minute conversation to understand your background, what you're looking for, and what kind of family you'd thrive with.

In-person interview
A meeting at our workspace — usually about an hour — with the placement director. This is where we go deeper on your experience, your priorities, and your career goals.

Reference & background checks
We call all three of your references personally, and run a full national background and driving record check. This takes about a week and stays confidential.

Skills assessment (role-dependent)
For some roles (newborn care, household management, chef) we ask for a skills demonstration — always paid, always on your terms.

What you probably want to know.
Do I have to pay any fees?
No. Our fees are paid entirely by families. Applying, interviewing, and being placed through us costs nothing.
Am I an employee of The Home Place, or the family?
You'll be a W-2 employee of the family you're placed with — not of The Home Place That means the family (with our guidance) handles payroll, taxes, and workers' comp for you. It also means your compensation, benefits, and terms are between you and them — which we help you negotiate.
Can I be listed with more than one agency?
Yes. Most professional nannies and household staff are listed with 2–3 reputable agencies. We ask for honesty about which agencies you're actively working with, so we can coordinate around any ongoing searches.
How long does the vetting process take?
From application to being added to our roster: typically 2–3 weeks. Reference calls and background checks are the most time-consuming step. If we're moving you toward a specific active family search, we can move faster.
What if I only want part-time or occasional work?
That's fine — we place regularly for mother's helpers, occasional sitters, part-time housekeepers, and part-time nannies. Tell us on the application and we'll match accordingly.
